While we could tell from the very start that The Emperor’s Caretaker manga would eventually involve a romance between Linhua, one of the caretakers for the series’ child emperor and his regent Souren. However, Ichiha Hiiragi and Aya Shouoto’s story initially prioritized establishing life in the palace, Linhua’s role, and professional relationships. It’s only in the third volume that things start to actually get into different types of obligations that come from the jobs people have or their positions in families. As a result, we’re finally getting the lovey-dovey moments suggested and teased as these other elements play out.

What I love about The Emperor’s Caretaker volume 3 is that, while this is the point in the manga when it gets to the romance elements, it still is focusing on folks’ personal, professional, and familial obligations. Linhua and Souren are getting their moment toward the end. However, in the lead-up we are seeing how even though he’s a child, Emperor Zhiyou can be called upon to rule a kingdom and see what happens with the Li family chancellor. We also get another glimpse at what life is like for Linhua as a daughter of the Liu family and how that familiar obligation influences her life and future.

In the case of Emperor Zhiyou, the example is an especially trying and pivotal moment. Throughout the volumes, we’ve seen him start to connect to his brother Souren finally, thanks to Linhua’s influence. They’ve build up a real relationship, and that’s highlighted as this volume begins. But because of Chancellor Li’s actions throughout the three volumes, it hit a point where there need to be repercussions for his actions. And while the man is clearly a villain, he’s always been kind to Zhiyou and acted like something of a grandfather to him. So we witness a small child going through more of his royal training, then being forced to act against someone he likely loves. It’s striking. Especially since we also see Rui, said chancellor’s son and a person Linhua’s father considered as a politically advantageous marriage candidate for the her for the Liu, debate against doing what’s right and filial piety. 

Obligations to family and expected roles in society play a big part in Linhua’s storyline. From the start of her series, Linhua’s father has been trying to get her married off. It’s how she even ended up as Emperor Zhiyou’s caretaker in the first place. With what happened to the Li family and Rui possibly jumping in power, we’re seeing him see an opportunity. Which means she’s concerned about leaving a job she loves for a marriage she’s forced into. It’s especially interesting to see how, at this point in the story, we’re getting to see her on the verge of possibly taking steps toward everything she could want.

Things are really in motion in The Emperor’s Caretaker volume 3, as the manga is establishing a challenge to the comfortable position Linhua holds, a possible future with Souren, and an emperor who is gradually growing up and developing as a ruler. While I don’t think we’ll see Zhiyou become a major force by the end of the series, seeing him preside over a ruling her feels like foreshadowing. So does Linhua and Souren making a commitment and hints that, while the two probably have a future together, other obligations might pose challenges along the way.

Volume 3 of The Emperor’s Caretaker is available now, and Square Enix will release volume 4 of the manga on September 9, 2025.

Back in March 2025, MegaHouse confirmed a Lucrea Hatsune Miku Gundam figure that would pair her with a 00 Gundam Haro. Only concept art by Ixy appeared at that time. Now the company took to social media to reveal the prototype for the upcoming item.

The current design resembles the Ixy art almost exactly. Hatsune Miku is hugging a Haro that has accessories on its head that resemble hers while looking at whoever is watching the two of them. A keyboard is imbedded in the ground by her right foot, and a sword is forced into the stand near her left foot. She sits on top of a number of CRT style monitors. The flowers from the original art aren’t shown on the stand in this prototype.

Here’s a close-up look at the unpainted prototype of this figure side-by-side with the original Ixy concept art used for its creation.

In another photo MegaHouse shared, it is shown on display with the other Lucrea figure in this collaboration. That features the Vocaloid with a Wing Gundam Zero-inspired look.

There are multiple figures and elements to this Gundam x Hatsune Miku Anniversary Special Project. Another will be a Banpresto Evolve figure of the Vocaloid with the RX-78-02 Gundam. That one will debut in Japan in December 2025. However, the prototype of it is on display at the Ikebukuro GiGO in Japan now.

There is no release window for the Gundam x Hatsune Miku Lucrea figure of her with a Haro yet. Pre-orders are expected to appear in 2025, according to initial announcements.

Akatsuki Games announced it opened the Tribe Nine applications for players to apply for a paid item refund and shared unimplemented story segments in Japanese for some chapters. The refund process takes place within the game app itself. The story chapters appear on a page on the official site that also included art of characters and locations that didn’t get to appear.

Getting a refund for making Tribe Nine paid item purchases is an involved process, and it applies to anything bought after April 10, 2025. You need to launch the game and select “Refunds Regarding End of Service” when you’re on the title screen. When you go to that screen, you can opt to apply on a Refund Application for Paid Item Purchases Made After the Publication of the Roadmap. You need to supply your email first, then the verification code for it to choose your refund method. As part of this process, you’ll get a Refund ID. Akatsuki didn’t state when to expect money back, but did say to directly contact the company about any issues. 

As for the unimplemented story scripts, descriptions, character art, and location art in Tribe Nine, the official directory page offered links to story chapters for three, four, and five. These are largely presented as scripts. However, there are Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 pages that show the official art and images for characters we would have met and places we’d have gone.

The Demon Slayer Crocs are coming back, as the shoes will return alongside the upcoming Infinity Castle movie. They will first appear in Japan on July 11, 2025. The US website for the shoes noted they’ll be back on August 11, 2025. This follows an earlier appearance of the shoes in 2023. People who visit the English website can supply an email address to sign up for notifications.

In Japan, only four Demon Slayer Crocs varieties appeared, while five types of shoes showed up on the US website. Tanjiro, Nezuko, Inosuke, and Zenitsu ones will apparently be everywhere, but Shinobu seems to only show up outside Japan for now. The Tanjiro model is the Echo Clog design with more holes along the side. Both the Inosuke and Zenitsu ones are All-Terrain Clogs designed for more active outdoor activities. The Nezuko and Shinobu variants are Classic Clog designs. Each one features a design inspired by the character’s outfit and Jibbitz charms that match their motif, weapons, or accessories in the series. 

These are standard Crocs unisex styles, with typical sizes available. This means the smallest shoes are a 4 in Men’s and 6 in Women’s, and the largest are a 17 in Men’s and 12 in Women’s.

This is the second recent collaboration collection confirmed. Animal Crossing Crocs are also on the way. 

The Demon Slayer Crocs will show up in Japan on July 11, 2025, then the shoes will appear in the US on August 11, 2025. Furyu announced that the Delicious in Dungeon figures of Falin and Marcille will be a part of its Tenitol figures collection, and each one wears a formal dress. In Japan, the Furyu storefront is selling them for ¥11,000 each or ¥22,000 as a pair, and Buyee offers worldwide shipping. Those will debut there in March 2026. They will be $74.99 each in the US, and both are expected to arrive in Q3 2026. Outside Japan, there’s no option to get both in a bundle.

This pair of Falin and Marcille figures seems to be set after the events of Delicious in Dungeon. Falin’s dress is based on her chimera form. In it, she was covered in white feathers with some red accents. There are feathers on the skirt of the dress, and she wears red heels. For the Marcille figure, her dress is black with gold accents, black flats, and a red ribbon around her neck as a necklace. She has her hair mostly long, though with two small braids, and a black ribbon as a headband.

There is one difference between the official Furyu release available via Hobby Mall and retailers like Good Smile Company’s. There are bonus face parts for Falin and Marcille. The standard faces show the two each smiling with their eyes open. The Falin bonus face plate features her eyes shut and a wider smile. The extra Marcille one makes her look a bit more flustered, with worried eyebrows and a more uncertain smile.

Furyu also offered an example image to show the estimated height of both characters next to each other and alongside an 8 inch tall 500mL bottle. Falin will be almost a foot tall (30cm). Marcille will be 11 inches tall (28cm). 

The Delicious in Dungeon Tenitol figures of Falin and Marcille each wearing a fancy dress will debut in Japan in March 2026 and worldwide in Q3 2026. Pre-orders through Furyu Hobby Mall close on September 24, 2025. Yen Press handled the manga outside Japan, while the anime is streaming on Netflix.

HoYoVerse shared a new “Keeping Up with Star Rail” YouTube installment focused entirely on how the Fate series’ Saber works when she appears in Honkai: Star Rail. It also started off by teasing she’s one of seven Servants to respond to the call for the first Penaconian Holy Grail War that brings elements of Fate/stay Nigh [Unlimited Blade Works] into the game. This follows a more jovial video promoting the crossover.  Another Servant known as Mr. Reca appeared to discuss her moveset and narrate segments showing her fighting.

The showcase first established Saber is a five-star Destruction character who deals Wind damage. It also highlighted that, in most situations, her sword looks invisible due to Magecraft and her Wind powers. Her Basic Attack is called Invisible Air: Barrier of the Wind King and hits one enemy. However, her Strike Air: Hammer of the Wind King Skill hits one target and the two adjacent to it. She also deals more damage after allies use Ultimates due to her Dragon Reactor Core Talent. This grants her a buff and gives her Core Resonance that she can turn into Energy via using her Skill so she can perform her own Ultimate sooner. Said Ultimate is named after her sword, and Excalibur deals Wind damage to every enemy and then bounce damage to another enemy. 

So in a way, her attack pattern is similar to Blade’s. She hits one with her standard attack. The Skill hits up to three. Then the Ultimate attacks everyone.

Uniqlo announced two new UT collections of crossover shirts are on the way, with Demon Slayer ones showing up first and Sanrio Characters Supermarket styles debuting after that. The Demon Slayer collection launched in Japan on July 7, 2025, ahead of a US debut on August 25, 2025. The Sanrio styles will first start to appear online in Japan on July 18, 2025, followed by a US release on September 8, 2025. 

The Demon Slayer Uniqlo shirts consist of four unisex adult designs. They are in men’s cuts and sizes, and they’re each going to be available in XXS through XXXL. Each one will be ¥1,500 in Japan and $24.90 in the US. One features nine Hashira on the back. Another shows Tanjiro and Nezuko together on the front. The third shows Zenitsu with the text, “Time to dream. A happy dream.” The final one features a snowflake on the front and Akaza on the back.

The Sanrio Characters Supermarket selection at Uniqlo will be a larger one with seven designs for women and seven for kids. The adult sizes appear in XXS through XXL. Those cost ¥1,500/$24.90 per t-shirt and ¥2,990/$39.90 per sweatshirt. The ones for children are in 3-4Y to 13Y. The shirts for kids cost ¥990/$14.90 and sweatshirts are ¥2,290/$29.90. The featured characters include Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty, Pochacco, Pompompurin, and Patty & Jimmy. However, the Patty & Jimmy design is only available for adults. 

This is how all of those styles will look when released.

Another anime collection is also coming up. Ai Yazawa shirts featuring Nana style designs were already confirmed by the company.

At Anime Expo 2025, Square Enix announced English, western releases of seven manga, the FFIX Picture Book, NieR Poster Collection, and FFVII Rebirth: Material Ultimania. While many of these new items won’t start appearing until 2026, the NieR, NieR: Automata, and NieR: Reincarnation collection will debut in November 2025.

In the case of the books based on Square Enix games, we’ll see the NieR Poster Collection first. That will cost $34.99. It consists of 11” x 14” posters that are about A3-size. These are taken from the two mainline games and mobile entry. Square Enix’s official site said to expect it on November 18, 2025. The FFVII Rebirth: Material Ultimania, which follows the one for Remake, will be out on July 14, 2026. That features concept art and insights into development. Sample pages for it also appeared. Finally, the FFIX Picture Book based on Vivi and Grandpa Quan’s adventures before the game debuts on May 19, 2026. It will be a hardcover short story with Toshiyuki Itahana illustrations.

One of the most-hyped new anime series on Crunchyroll for the Summer 2025 season is the Gachiakuta adaptation. The series is a pretty well established one, as it’s been running in Japan since February 2022. It’s also one of those sorts of underdog stories about a young man who gains the ability to face overwhelming monsters, fight back against fate, and get revenge for being framed for murder. Basically, it checks all the shonen series boxes, and the manga looks gorgeous (and often gory) while doing it. Now that I’ve seen the first episodes, I feel like that fanfare might be deserved, and this adaptation maintains the series’ dark and gritty nature.

Gachiakuta starts by establishing the nature of the series. There’s what appears to be a modern city, and talk of how items treated well develop souls. It then asks what happens to trash treated poorly and abandoned. After a child’s toy breaks, a mother tosses it out. Narration explains that not only are items treated poorly and abandoned as trash, but people are too. This sets up a situation in which items are tossed away. It’s then we see a Trash Raider watched the latest dismissals of trash into chutes in the city below. A young man is going through it when armed personnel find and shoot at him.

It’s a powerful type of message to begin with, accompanied by frantic music and interesting set pieces that establishes how there’s a goal to be clean. People talk down about trash raids and the “tribefolk” who also inhabit this home. Said folks live beyond the wall in a cramped, packed, slum district, and rumor is those people’s descendants were criminals who were cast out. It’s then that we see Rudo is a young man who lives beyond the wall and is a member of the “tribefolk.” He’s fixed the plush the woman and girl abandoned and is chastised by his friend Chiwa for causing trouble, as well as warned about the consequences. Rudo explains it’s a means of earning money, in addition to preserving things that may need a second chance. Even here though, he’s criticized by people around him.

It really sets up Rudo not only as an underdog, but a good person. He cares about Chiwa and the items he finds. He picked up one of these for her, rather than sell it. He wants to help repay his foster father Regto, who took him in and raised him. He’s smart and skilled, capable of executing the trash raids. There’s the suggestion that he’s smart and talented enough to do more. There’s also a sense of mystery surrounding him, since his injured hands bear unusual black marks and are painful when he doesn’t wear his gloves.

The first episode is really fantastic at setting up who he is before the other shoe drops. Once Rudo is framed for murder, the worst happens. He’s dropped into the Pit, then immediately faced with a monster made of trash. (The design of these Trash Beasts are incredible!) Yet because of being as skilled as he was above, he manages to hold his own until another individual with unexpected abilities steps in to assist. Enjin explains he’s a Cleaner. What follows is what seems to be a possibility for Rudo to accomplish his goals and find truth. However, it’s also at that point that things get incredibly dark, so it’s important to know there will be blood and gore going into it.

Bones makes a strong first impression with the Gachiakuta anime adaptation. Much of the style seems to be preserved. It hints at Rudo’s mystery, strength, and circumstances in a short amount of time. It doesn’t hold back, just as the original series doesn’t. Also, based on the initial imagery of the first trash beasts and city and Pit set pieces, it seems the ambiance and critical design elements will be maintained as well. It could prove to be the major shonen series of the Summer 2025 anime season on Crunchyroll.

The Gachiakuta anime is streaming on Crunchyroll, and a new episode appears every Sunday going forward. The manga is handled by Kodansha outside Japan.

My Dress-Up Darling combines cosplay and a celebration of talents for a series that promotes acceptance and showcases the start of a healthy relationship. (It also featured quite a bit of fanservice!) The first season could be stunning, thanks to gorgeous animation from Cloverworks and a storyline that could be touching and sometimes even hilarious. After seeing the start of season 2 of My Dress-Up Darling, it seems this will yet again be one of the must-watch Crunchyroll shows this season.

The first episode of My Dress-Up Darling season 2 begins in a really fun way, as it highlights the thing that brought Wakana Gojo and Marin Kitagawa together: cosplay. Instead of beginning with the two of them and what’s next for the duo, we’re watching an episode of We're the Tsukiyono Company. That’s the original series within a series that stars Arisa Izayoi, a character Marin wants to cosplay as during the series. We’re seeing the two bond over the show, which they’re both enjoying, and it’s establishing the same sort of enjoyable pattern we came to expect from the first part of the series. 

I also love these first five minutes since it quickly and perfectly establishes who Wakana and Marin are as characters. Marin is enthusiastic! She loves fanservice, series, and characters, and she’s excited to share it and talk about her ideas with Wakana. She’s not ashamed to be so delighted by all of this. Even though Wakana doesn’t get it initially, he’s not judging her. He appreciates her excitement. Once she talks about some concepts and ideals being eternally popular and appreciated, it clicks for him. He ties it in with his own experiences and talent for doll making. And because of her passion and his own, he agrees to start working on designs immediately.

This first episode also doesn’t hesitating in establishing their relationship in a fun way too, also ensuring things pick up where they left off. During this whole opening scene, Marin is eating Pocky. She asks if he wants one. Wakana agrees, and she teases him by offering it like a kiss. It shows that she’s already starting to be comfortable with how she feels about him. At the same time, it shows he’s developed feelings for her as well, and is easily flustered by the action as a result.

The rest of the episode sort of prioritizes the balance between their cosplay passions and relationship. We see both of them are at a point where they are aware of feelings. They’re comfortable working together. They enjoy each other’s company. But they also are still working on completely comfortable and accepting of everything. It’s really a fantastic first episode for establishing what we’re coming from in the first season, setting up the second, and hinting at the sort of relationship and cosplay challenges the two will face going forward.

Episode. 1 of My Dress-Up Darling season 2 is handled so well and is one of the better first episodes of a second season of a show I’ve seen. It acts as a great transition between two parts of a series. It sets up the two leads well, with characterizations that establish who they are and both acting and animations that define them in short periods of time. The new challenges, both in terms of Marin and Wakana’s new outfit and their budding potential relationship, are presented well. It seems like the start of another strong adaptation.

During Anime Expo 2025, a new trailer for Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc appeared and confirmed Kenshi Yonezu will return as the singer for the theme song for the film. The track is called “Iris Out,” and a portion of it played during the video. 

The latest Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc trailer highlights the current dilemma Denji faces as the story begins. Not only is he still in love with Makima, his Special Division 4 boss, but another young woman named Reze is interested in him. However, it isn’t going to be a love story, as there’s also a new devil threatening the city and the Devil Hunters and Chainsaw Man are after it. The events pick up right after the first season of the anime, which is on Crunchyroll.

Sony shared a version of the Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc video with English subtitles on YouTube, though those are only for the in-game scenes and don't offer a song lyric translation. It also featured a peek at some supporting cast members who will be in this installment, such as the Angel Devil who works alongside the Devil Hunters.

This will be the second Kenshi Yonezu song to appear in Chainsaw Man, as the first was the opening theme for the show. As a reminder, here’s how “Kick Back” sounds.

Bandai Namco shared the English and Japanese theme songs for Digimon Alysion, the new mobile trading card game, and Nijisanji Vtuber Enna Alouette sings it in both languages. The track is called “Firebird Girls.” Both versions’ music PVs are on YouTube. The performer also commented on the situation on social media and expressed her excitement about it.

The music video PVs are identical, with only the track being different over each one. So we see the same gameplay footage each time. Here’s the English version of the Enna Alouette song:

While there’s no release date for this Digimon mobile card game yet, it is possible to already get an idea of how it works. Bandai Namco is at Anime Expo 2025 with the title. It has demo stations and statues of characters from the game at booth SF-12. It’s also possible to get a sticker based on it if you attend, take a photo of the booth, and talk to people staffing it.

Digimon Alysion is in development for mobile devices. Anime Expo runs July 3-6, 2025, and that takes place in Los Angeles, California.

Another Zoids Synergex crossover model kit got a release date, as the Xeno Rex Test Type-01 figure based on the Evangelion Eva will debut in April 2026. It will cost $56.99. This looks like a standard type of Xeno Rex Zoid. However, all the colors and design elements are based on Eva 01 from both the original anime and Rebuild films.

Here are the initial images that showed the assembled model kit and some of the display options. For example, we see how a pilot can be inserted into it, with an entry plug or Shinji Ikari-style one present. Some of the weaponry, like a knife and guns, are shown. Its mouth can open and close. 

This is the second recent Zoids model kit release reveal, as Kotobukiya opened pre-orders for one that lets people build a woman inspired by Blade Liger. That comes with a small Zoid you can transform into equipment for the figure. That will debut in Japan in January 2026, then show up worldwide in March 2026. 

The Zoids Xeno Rex Test Type-01 Evangelion model kit will launch in April 2026, and pre-orders are open until July 29, 2025. The anime is on Netflix, and the Rebirth of Evangelion movies are on Amazon.

In May 2024, Kotobukiya announced a Metamor Verse model kit line that would involve iconic Zoids characters turned into human girls, and now we have release details for a woman version of Blade Liger. We’ll be able to build the Blade Liger MV-01 Ao Kiriyama figure in 2026. It’ll debut first in Japan in January 2026 for 14,850円, then it will show up in March 2026 in the US for $119.99.

Once someone builds the Metamor Verse Zoids model kit, there will be multiple display options for the final figure that will allow you to display MV-01 Ao Kiriyama in basic armor with a small Blade Liger beside her. Or, if you prefer, you can diassemble the Blade Liger and turn it into Buddy Armor. This adds additional equipment to her head, arms, waist, and legs while also giving her dual blade weapons. Due to the design, it is capable to easily transform between the three different form options. 

Here are some initial photos from Kotobukiya that show how all three options can look and show different poses that are possible between the characters when they are separate individuals. Three pre-painted face plates are also part of the kit.

Kotobukiya also confirmed there is a bonus for buying directly from one of the manufacturer’s stores. You can get an extra hairstyle. Typically, Ao Kiriyama has blonde hair in pigtails with blue streaks. The additional runner provided with the kit lets you build pink hair in pigtails with a blue streak as an additional option.
